Since carrying out the reform and opening up policies, the economy of Hangzhou has been growing by leaps and bounds, the social undertakings making progress and people living a well-off life. In 2004, the National Gross Products (GDP) of Hangzhou recorded RMB25.15 billion Yuan, the GDP per capita RMB38,858 Yuan, the financial revenue RMB3.9575 billion Yuan, and the discretionary income of urbanpeople RMB14,565 Yuan. The total economic power has been maintaining a tow-digit growth for 14 consecutiveyears. In this sense, Hangzhou ranks No. 2 among all provincial capitals and No. 3 among sub-provincialcities in China.
Private enterprises are developing quickly in Hangzhou. Fifty-three enterprises in Hangzhou were listed amongthe national top-500 enterprises of large scale.
